I have wondered if any or you have noticed lately something I have seen for awhile. Ever notice when you turn on some sports talk shows, especially for some reason the shows from the”World Wide Leader in Sports”, and listen to the anchors and “so called experts” how their mannerisms and actions seem to be exaggerated and over the top?
From guys saying “where I’m from….this that and the other”, to others calling players “scrubs or bums”, when did the show become less about the athletes and more about the “sideshow performers”, as I like to call them.
These are the guys that want to wow you with their witty arsenal of vocabulary words, yet each show use the exact same words on each show, “sorry guys we can handle a vast array of sensationalized adjectives and action verbs”, see what my sarcasm did there.
Oh this is the one that gets me, a guy with an IVY LEAGUE education sounding like a 19 year old teenager. Why would your rather be a parody/caricature of a stereotype, than astound people with your actual intellectual acumen? I must be one of the few that wouldn’t mind seeing a bit more intellect verses “Uhhhh…. drop the beat… I’m bout to hit you with some rhymes”. Wait “I thought I turned on a sports talk show not MTV”.
Being an original is still the best position, there are many copy cats but consumers can see through an act quite quickly. Those that have brought something authentic to their shows the desk, please continue to do so.
Most of this “jingle jangle get along”, has been passed down from upper management, saying dumb things like, “need you guys to be more URBAN”, when we can clearly tell the guys you want to say those things don’t sound anything like what they are portraying nor do the mannerisms match. It’s never a bad thing to be yourself, that is what people will love about you.
Consumers don’t want to see a bunch of cartoon characters masquerading as sports journalists.
