As I write this I’m saddened by the events in Baltimore
I understand anger over perceived misgivings ever more
Some believe justice will never be served to their people
So they take to the streets and demand that things be equal
I feel the pain for the family of those that have love ones lost
I feel the pain of those that have no job, riots were the cause
I wonder if those that are doing the rioting realize the overall
That a mother with kids can’t feed her family because of no car
It’s burning and smoldering because you’re being defiant
You didn’t go downtown and protest in from of the station
You decided to burn your own neighborhood and the things in it
An officer was killed, and now you feel vindicated
Ever seen how law enforcement reacts when their own is infiltrated
Violence begets violence, it’s a never ending cycle of chaos
Dr. King marched for people to have the right to protest peacefully
He laid his life on the line, so that people of all colors could exist
Rosa Parks took a stand when she was tired and refused to move
People marched and rallied, when they had a whole lot more to lose
People today say they feel like modern day slaves, with Nikes on
Tell that to the people of the past that no longer have feet to walk on
It’s time to look inward and reflect, what does rioting do and to what effect
The place where you live is now on fire, where will you go to lay your head
The people that couldn’t get out of the place, how do you repay the dead
You burned the place where Omar Little was shot, a hood landmark
The times they have changed, when do you change with them
With change and reflection on the past should come wisdom
You’re probably thinking this author just doesn’t know
You’d be dead wrong as I had a gun pressed to the point of my nose
I talked to the officer and let him know I was lost and couldn’t find my way
Know what, I’m here writing this poem to for you, about you hoping for you today
With that said stop, think, gather, sitting and figuring out the reasons why
Fear is a key component in this entire struggle of supposed good vs evil
When it gets down to it can we really identify who is who and what does it mean
In the end, I would love to know “Do the Ends Justify the Means”
