Ramble #6 Are Stop Signs Optional??

Seems as if I can’t go a day driving without someone deciding that a stop sign is an option rather than a mandatory stop.  Are we in such a hurry that for 2.79 seconds you can fully stop, and wait to proceed on with your journey?  I say this as a driver who has driven 20 hours straight to get to a destination and generally obeys all the rules of the road.

Stop 2

In the suburbs it has become an epidemic of tremendous proportions of the habitual stop sign jumpers,  as if going 63 mph in a 30 mph zone isn’t enough of a hazard to other drivers, coming upon a stop sign becomes an inconvenience to get to the next stop sign another block away.  These traffic markers are put in place to protect all on the road.  I’ve watched in horror as mothers with infants in strollers have to make a mad dash across an intersection to avoid the impatient sign jumper.

Stop 3

I bring this up in what could potentially be a running commentary of rambles on traffic issues I see.  With the rise of road rage and the havoc that is wrought because of that rage, maybe getting people to read these traffic rambles will lead to better decisions on the road. Lives are at stake, yours, your passengers, others that share the road, and pedestrians.
